Why:  To power up your morning and meet Ronald Redfern who is president and CEO of the Inland Southern California Region’s leading news media organization, Enterprise Media, and publisher of  the Inland Southern California Region's largest, local daily newspaper The Press-Enterprise, and its largest newspaper website, PE.com.

Ron joined A. H. Belo’s Enterprise Media company and The Press-Enterprise in 2005 after spending three years in Tampa, Florida as president and CEO and president of Media General’s Florida Communications Group, which was comprised of NBC affiliate WFLA, Florida’s #1 television station at that time, The Tampa Tribune, Tampa’s largest daily newspaper, and TBO.com, the largest Internet portal serving the Tampa Bay 10-county market.

His career as an executive in the media business has spanned 30 years, most of which has been spent with media companies in Southern California, including Freedom Communications where from 1990 to 2002 he held several senior executive positions, including president of Freedom's Interactive Division and president and COO of The Orange County Register.  Prior to Freedom Ron served as president, publisher and CEO of Golden West Publishing, a group of 24 weekly newspapers published in Los Angeles and Orange County and owned by Media General.  Before that he held several senior executive positions with Harte-Hanks Communications direct mail PennySaver operations in Southern California.

In addition to his work as a board member and past president of the California Newspaper Publishers Association, Ron also sits on the board of the California Chamber of Commerce.  He is very active in service to his region and community serving as a director of the Monday Morning Group of Western Riverside County, a regional advocacy group comprised of business, community and civic leaders.  He sits on the boards of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce where he also served as chair of its Government Affairs Council, the Inland Empire Transportation Coalition, the La Sierra University Foundation, the Dean’s Advisory Board of the School of Business Administration at University of California Riverside.  He was also founding chair of the Riverside County Philharmonic Foundation.

In 2010 Ron gave the commencement address at California Baptist University’s Graduate Commencement Ceremonies and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University.  In 2012 he was named California Newspaper Executive of the Year by The California Press Association, and was also named as a UCR Foundation Trustee, where he serves as chair of the Foundation’s Advocacy Committee.

Ron earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from California State University, Northridge, where he graduated magna cum laude.

Ron and his wife Holly reside in Riverside in a 100-year old historic craftsman home they restored and which they share with their two Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers, Remmington and Riley.  They are the parents of two grown children, Ryan and Heather, both of whom live in Southern California with their families.
